Helm Godfrey’s Dan Burnham joins exclusive ranks of UK’s youngest Personal Financial Society Fellows

Helm Godfrey IFA Dan Burnham has become one of the youngest advisers in the country to achieve The Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) highest professional standard, reaching Fellowship status at age 29.

The achievement means he is one of just 231 advisers in the country aged between 22 and 30 who are Fellows of the Personal Finance Society, which is part of the CII. In total there are currently 2,352 Fellows, most of whom are aged over 40.

Notably, Burnham is also a Certified Financial Planner, which is the highest level of qualification achievable from a different professional standards body, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). Very few advisers in the country are thought to be Chartered by the CII, Certified by CISI and Fellows of the PFS.

The CII places Fellows into four age categories, as follows:

Age Number of advisers
22 – 30 231 completers
31 – 40 908 completers
41 – 50 842 completers
Over 50 371 completers

Burnham joined Helm Godfrey just over two years ago and at that time held only the CII’s Diploma in Financial Planning, the minimum qualification required by all regulated advisers in the UK.

But with the support of Helm Godfrey, he has been able to dedicate much of his time when not advising clients, to studying.

Says Burnham: “I want to give my clients the best advice possible and one of the ways I can do that is by being highly qualified and having extensive technical knowledge. It feels a bit like I’ve done nothing but study over the past two years but the hard work has really paid off – I’m the only adviser I know who is Chartered, Certified and a Fellow of the PFS, so it’s a special achievement.

“I may take a break from study now, but not for too long. Financial planning does not stand still, rules and regulations are always changing and I intend to stay on top of that.”

Graham Cross, Helm Godfrey chief executive, adds: “Dan has been buried in books almost since joining us and we’re really pleased with his success. Achieving Fellowship status at his age is a remarkable achievement and Dan’s technical knowledge is extremely impressive.

“Relationship and interpersonal skills are also a very important part of an adviser’s job, and he has those too, making him a genuinely excellent adviser.”
