New HR consultancy service from Helm Godfrey

Press Releases  |     |   Helm Godfrey

The service will complement the work of Helm Godfrey’s successful and growing employee benefits division and plug a growing gap in HR provision in many firms.

The uncertain economic climate has meant numerous small and medium-sized firms have been unable to allocate sufficient resources to the HR area on a full-time basis. Larger businesses, too, are sometimes working with reduced HR capability as part of wider efforts to control costs.

Helm’s service seeks to meet this HR need, providing a cost-effective tailored service to suit different businesses. This could involve working on specific projects or acting in a retained capacity fulfilling day-to-day HR functions.

The HR consultancy is led by experienced HR professional Elizabeth Cook, who has worked for multi-national companies at HR director level, as well as a consultant to businesses of all sizes.

Cook, who is Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development accredited, says:

“Our expertise and proposition covers the full range of HR needs. We can help new or small companies get their basic HR systems in place to ensure compliance with statutory employment regulations or provide sophisticated advice to firms in complicated merger and acquisition situations.”

Graham Cross, Helm Godfrey Managing Director, adds:

“It is incredibly exciting to see the employee benefits side of our business growing so well. The addition of the HR consultancy service means we have an even more compelling proposition and can offer a very valuable new set of services to businesses of all sizes.”

The key areas where the service can add value are:

  • Organisational design: Formalising company and employee structures and strategies to support corporate culture, values and strategy.
  • Employment environment: HR audits and due diligence; developing compliant and practical policy and process; performance management processes with goal-setting with the aim of aligning employees to business goals, encouraging their contribution to the bottom line.
  • Communications: Helping ensure company strategy, goals, performance and achievement are communicated internally.
  • Employee relations: Helping prevent negative issues arise, helping to resolve them quickly if they do; change management in mergers, acquisitions or business downsizing.

Cook says an integral part of the service for many businesses will involve aligning businesses’ HR provision and systems with their broader corporate strategies to ensure they grow in line with the company and do not lag behind.

Adds Cook:

“HR is at the heart of every business as it helps look after their greatest asset; their employees. Over the past 15 years there has been a huge increase in the level of statutory duties employers must undertake. Failing to do so can have serious and costly consequences. But HR is not just about following employment laws, it is also about ensuring employees feel part of the business by knowing what is expected of them and by being fairly rewarded for their efforts. Happy and motivated employees contribute effectively to business success.”
