Anthony was named over fellow-finalist Barclays as Volunteer Programme Award winner at apprenticeship charity City Gateway’s 15th anniversary Crystal Gala hosted by the Lord Mayor at London’s Guildhall on Thursday March 19th.

Said Anthony: “I’ve been running financial education and workplace skills training courses for young people at City Gateway since 2013 and it’s been a privilege. It’s great to be able help future apprentices gain the skills they will need to thrive in the workplace and learn how to manage their money. It is an absolute pleasure and this award is the icing on the cake and I am genuinely honoured and touched to receive it, but nothing beats getting into the classroom and engaging the students in financial education and seeing them take on practical information that will serve them well in employment.”

Eddie Stride, chief executive of City Gateway, said: “Anthony’s award is well-deserved recognition for the hard work, commitment, enthusiasm and wisdom he’s brought over the past couple of years to teaching City Gateway’s future apprentices about their personal finances and important skills such as budgeting, saving effectively, and managing debt. His broader advice on softer workplace skills has also been really well-received by the young people who have been part of his financial education programme. Anthony’s continuing work with us is greatly appreciated and valued, as this award shows. Hopefully we can inspire others to join us in bringing hope to the local community we serve.”

Helm Godfrey recently produced a short film in partnership with City Gateway and Pimlico Plumbers, a well-known and vocal advocate of apprenticeships, in which Anthony Nash, Eddie Stride, and Pimlico managing director Charlie Mullins talked about the important role apprenticeships can play in getting young people into training and work.

Anthony Nash adds: “Research last year showed apprenticeships contribute some £34bn a year to the UK economy, with individual organisations receiving a bottom line boost of £2,000 per apprentice1. In London the figure was higher, at £2,621, so there is a real business case for apprenticeships. Every employer, large and small, can play a role in educating and training our next generation of workers.”
